Freedom is knowing the power of doing less. Today I’m excited to share how to do less & prioritize your life, which is essentially teaching you how to design your life around what matters to you. You’ll get a chance to self reflect & answer some journal prompts in this video to help you figure out what to focus on.
Essentialism is the concept of “less, but better.” It’s okay to do less, if you’re choosing to do the right things. Focus on impact and value. Stop doing busywork and wasting time on distractions!
Here are mistakes we often make:
- Spreading ourselves too thin.
- Saying yes to too many obligations.
- Trying to do so much in so little time.
My personal biggest mistake is always underestimating how long it takes me to do something. I expect to get a lot done in a day, but then at the end of the day, I realize I didn’t even get through most of the things on my list, not even some important things on my list. And I feel defeated, disappointed, and my confidence suffers.
Let’s hone in on how we spend our time and energy, and design our dream lives with clarity and intention. 💎✨
Questions to ask yourself:
- What do I want my life to be all about?
- What do I love?
- What do I stand for?
- What is my definition of success?
- What does a happy, fulfilled life look like to me?
- In this ideal life, where does my energy and time go?
- Have I been doing anything for the wrong reasons?
- How do I truly want to feel?
- If I don’t feel that way now, when will I?
- How can I cultivate these feelings now?
How to implement essentialism into your life:
1. Make a list of your to do’s, goals, and responsibilities for the next three months.
Make a giant list, brainstorm, dump it all out on paper!
2. Ask yourself: What is the item, out of all of these things, that has the greatest impact?
Now you know what’s important and essential.
3. Go over over your list and ask yourself: What items do I not have to do? What can I cut out?
Always ask yourself: What can I eliminate or delegate?
4. Start planning your next action steps for your one most essential goal or project.
Pick the most important action steps to start with and put those in your to-do list and calendar.
5. Set time aside to do a weekly cleanup of your to do list.
Dedicate that time to declutter anything that is not essential.
The key to making essentialism work is to let go of FOMO. Accept that you aren’t able to do it all and focusing on the essential is a more effective use of your time. Soon enough, you’ll understand how freeing it is to say no to things.
The best part about this is that it supports being gentle and compassionate with ourselves. Take off that pressure to do so much, or try to be everything to everyone. Focus on what truly matters and the most impactful actions, and everything will be fine. 💜
The next time you come across a decision or challenge, ask: “What is essential?”, and eliminate everything else.
